No recording dates given, but since Arnaldo and Sergio are both present, it would make sense for it to have been recorded in-between Mutantes E Seus Cometas No País Do Baurets and Tudo Foi Feito Pelo Sol, as Arnaldo was gone by the time of the latter.
As I was there as producer assistant, it was recorded in mid 1973 at the Eldorado Studio, in 16 tracks, São Paulo, BR ( With love, Pena Schmidt, 2017)

Recorded in the summer of 1973, O A e o Z shows how Os Mutantes have changed their sound since their last album Mutantes e seus Cometas no País do Baurets. In this particular record, you won't find any tropicalist elemment, this is heavy progressive rock stuff, quite like british rock groups such as Yes, ELP and Genesis. Philips/Polydor' directors heard the album and thought that there were no comercial appeal, and decided to not realease album. Only in 1992 - 19 years later - the album was finally released.
